Introduction to the Bearne Family TreeThe information given on the site has been generated using a programme called Legacy. Much of the initial research was done by Air Vice Marshal Guy Bearne, with additions from other family members known to us. There are problems in tracing the line back, which Guy describes in his introduction to his family history. We have incorporated information from other Bearnes as we have received it and, eventually hope to link up different branches of the family as pieces of the jigsaw fall into place. So please do Email us whatever information you can. Where we have spotted apparent anomalies, we will be listing these on the message board under "Family Tree Anomalies", in case anyone can unravel the knots. We have also included a page generated from the error report from Legacy. If you wish to give us birth dates and any other key information on family members to make the records as complete as possible, we can store these on our computer but will make sure that dates for those still living are not shown on the web (!). We hope to be able to provide on line forms, etc. in the future. In the meantime, from the Legacy Family Tree Website you can download a Free copy of the programme we are using. Put as much of your family tree into legacy as you know and then Email us your data file, which we can then merge into the site master tree. Or just Email as much information as you can. We will then incorporate it as time permits (do please bear in mind that we both have full time jobs and busy lives!).
Finding Your Way Around the Family Tree SectionYou can approach the family tree information in a number of ways:
The graphical family tree is a large 'pictorial' representation of all the information we currently have, in the conventional 'tree' format. You can move around this tree on line, though you won't be able to see all of it at once. If you try to print this out, it will cover a large number of A4 pages that you could then stick together (good luck!). The Surname List pre-sorts the surnames that occur in the tree and will lead you through to the correct section of the Index of Names, should you choose this route. The Index of Names provides the main route into the family tree information. From the alphabetical list, find the individual you are looking for and click on their entry. This will take you into their ancestor chart, allowing you to track backwards from them. Also shown are details of spouses and children (unfortunately the tree does not distinguish between legal and common-law marriage as yet!). Where this has been entered, there may be further details about an individual and, in some cases, a photograph. You can further navigate around the tree by clicking on the name entries or the arrows to take you back through the generations. You can also return to the main index to find someone else. If you are using family tree software that reads the generic GEDCOM format, you can download a copy of our family tree, which can be merged into your files (This file does not have detail for living family. Full file on request!).
